Irma was not alive during the 1700's. She was actually an employee of Colonial Williamsburg who lived in an apartment that is now a dining room in the Tavern. She was an older woman who died of a heart attack in that room. When I worked at the Tavern the room's designation was "Up Room". And yes, we did experience her presence. Every Christmas, we installed electric candles in the windows along the front of the building. The waiters were in charge of unscrewing the light bulbs at the end of each shift at night. The next day, the lights were ALWAY back on in Up Room, even if we were the last people to leave the building!
